SME profits bounce back

More small and medium-sized business owners are optimistic about the outlook for their companies than has been seen since the beginning of the GFC, according to a National Australia Bank survey.
The bank's Quarterly Small Business Survey found that business owners expected a strong recovery in consumer confidence to translate into fatter profits.

"Most pleasingly, the 12-month profit outlook for small and medium-sized businesses is the most optimistic we have seen in Australia for more than two and a half years," NAB general manager Geoff Greer said. "What we are seeing here is that Australia's SMEs are really starting to see the light at the end of the GFC tunnel."

The survey showed that customer confidence and demand had jumped 44 points from negative 23 index points in June to 21 in December.
